1The outbreak
The outbreak is global, and missions take you through cities such as New York, Moscow, Tokyo and Rome. You play small teams of survivors who fight their way to rescue.
2How you survive
Classes give each player a role, from medic to demolition expert. The hordes are the highlight: hundreds of enemies on screen, climbing walls and flooding streets. Defensive gadgets and turrets help you hold a position.
3Alone or together
Up to four players can play online, with bots filling empty slots. Cross-play with consoles is supported. Solo works, but the game is built for a squad.
4Look & sound
The swarm technology is still impressive. Locations are varied and well lit, and the sound of an incoming horde is effective.
5Setup & value
It lists at $29.99 and runs on Windows. Steam lists it as Playable on Steam Deck. Many episodes and classes are included.

Verdict
“World War Z: Aftermath delivers the spectacle of a true horde better than anyone. It is a great pick for a squad of four.”
